The watch manufacturer Jacques Lemans scored a small sensation at the world’s largest horse race, Pegasus World Cup: Jacques Lemans watches were chosen to be given to the winners of the 12 million dollar cup. This is an honorable recognition for the watch manufacturer. Mrs. Riedl herself handed over the specially designed watches to the lucky winners.
The Pegasus World Cup took place at the end of January in Florida (USA). Pegasus; the winged horse, a creature from mythology, shrouded in legend – a symbol for strong and fast horses with outstanding abilities. Characteristics which, in the eyes of Frank Stronach – billionaire businessman and event organizer with Austrian roots, made it the perfect name for such an event. Stronach, who owns numerous high ranked riding facilities worldwide, has dreamed of a unique horse race for many years. A horse race that outshines all others.
Up until now the US $ 10 million World Cup in Dubai has been the most valuable horse race in the world. In the scope of a press conference in February 2016 the 83-year-old self-made billionaire Stronach presented his concept of the world’s brand new highest-ranked horse race in the world. The competition was hosted at the Gulfstream Park near Miami, Florida (USA). Only thoroughbred horses were allowed to participate in the cup.
Remarkable detail: the entry fee was US $ 1 million per horse and only 12 horses were allowed to enter the competition. According to official information from the Stronach Group all 12 starting positions were filled within only one week. One ticket was priced between US $ 100 and US $ 765.
Against many odds it was not the superstar-horse “California Chrome” (owner: California Chrome LLC) that won the cup but the thoroughbred horse “Arrogate” (owner: Prince Kahlid bin Abudllah, Saudi Arabia). The owners were happy to receive the win bonus, namely US $ 7 million.
Having been allowed to provide the winners’ watches is a special way of recognition for the watch manufacturer Jacques Lemans. It shows the company’s good reputation on the global market.
